A guest post from Deidra Lynch:

I hope that all of you can attend the upcoming “A Gift for Music” Winter Orchestra Concert being held on
Dec 5th at 3:00pm
First Unitarian Church of Orlando in the Sanctuary
1901 E. Robinson St
Orlando, FL 32803
AGFM served 13 Title One schools in Central Florida last year by offering free violin rentals and weekly instruction for all third graders as well as advanced classes for interested students in 4th and 5th grade.

Participating schools for the 2009-2010 school year include:

  • Azalea Park Elementary
  • Eccleston Elementary
  • Fern Creek Elementary
  • Orlo Vista Elementary
  • Three Points Elementary
  • Ventura Elementary
Talented middle school students that are willing to make the weekly Saturday commitment to rehearsal are invited to participate in the Core Orchestra and switch to viola, cello or bass.  They may audition for the Chamber Orchestra when they reach a high school performance level.  Many of these students do not have orchestras in their middle or high school music programs so AGFM continues to put classical strings training in the hands of deserving but disadvantaged Central Florida students.
The AGFM Core and Chamber orchestras will be playing for us and their families in the sanctuary at 3:00pm and we will then have a small reception after wards in Gore Hall.  AGFM will be supplying coffee, cups, punch and cookies.

Lear more about “A Gift for Music” by watching the video online.

Volunteers interested in helping to organize or decorate for this free concert are welcome to email msdjazzy@gmail.com!

WFTD

Fair Trade means a fair wage for farmers and artisans who produce the items we consume and enjoy, a better future for our planet and a tastier, higher quality product for you.

This year’s festival will include amazing veg food, Orlando Brewing beer, live music, Orlando’s finest local artisans of all kinds (just in time for Mother’s Day!) including handmade jewelry, crafts, live art, massage, henna, and so much more! Face-painting, pottery, and other children’s activities will be provided by Misty Forest Enrichment Center. Bring the family out to learn something new and have a great time at it!

Opening

6:00  AM — Celebrate Wesak with the Florida School of Holistic Living in our community education garden, under the Bodhi tree, on Saturday May 9, 2009.

It started yesterday, but you can still catch some of the E.L.L.A. Fest over the weekend! Details?

What is the E.L.L.A. Music Festival?

A Musical Celebration of the Florida Female Artist. Elevate.Listen.Love.Appreciate.  E.L.L.A.

“E.L.L.A, A Musical Celebration of the Florida Female Artist,” is here to showcase to the people of Orlando the wonderful and extremely talented women that grace our fine city and state. Its purpose is to help elevate the inner spirit of all artists who have not yet heeded the call to create; to support and listen to what we, as a community of believers and communicators, have to say; to love one another, and to help spread that love beyond the walls of our inner self; and to appreciate, and to show our appreciation of what has come from our home, before it goes away and never comes back. We believe that Florida has some of the strongest and most talented women in the world, and they deserve to be heard, viewed, and celebrated. By creating this festival, we want to make sure that they are.”

If you liked the Behind the Beans preview of Seven Sisters Coffee house, you can catch another taste of the yummy organic, fair trade joe at the May 17th “Evening Entertainment Escape!”

Alisha Kearns is taking Seven Sisters Coffeehouse over to be one of the tables at the crazy celebration of “creative spirit” held at First Unitarian Church of Orlando.

First Unitarian is “keeping it local” by putting on the event as a community service project to offer artists, musicians, small businesses and groups a platform to broadcast and promote themselves to Greater Orlando. They don’t even charge a booth fee — so if you are interested in participating, email audioteam@orlandouu.org for more info.

The audience shows it’s support of the local talent, local groups, and helps to celebrate “creative spirit” by coming to watch!

Billed as a sort of “wacky music and arts” festival, the Evening Entertainment Escape is shaping up to feature a lot of cool performers:

…and more!

There will also be various info tables, concessions, kirigami crafts, thrift store shopping, movie shorts, and “whatever other crazy creative thing we can squeeze in!”
