Chefs at Loews Royal Pacific Resort are celebrating the bounty of Central Florida with a special Farmer’s Market Dining Experience that features locally-grown food. In partnership with Slow Food Orlando and as part of Loews Hotels’ “Adopt-a-Farmer” program, the hotel consistently sources and buys food items that are grown and raised in the local area. Islands Dining Room will host their first Farmer’s Market Dining Experience on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 6:00 – 8:30 PM.

The Second Annual Kid’s Festival by the Simple Living Institute is coming on Sept. 20th! Here’s the scoop:

The Kids’ Festival is an event custom-made for children aged 5-12 to explore and engage in Simple Living-style activities including conservation and organic farming. This event will be held at the Econ Farm,which is a rustic outdoor setting, so come prepared for Florida weather. Activities will include a hydrology lesson/river swim, scavenger hunt, seed planting in the garden, and celebration and snacks at the end.

If you’d like to volunteer or help plan the event, drop them a line!

I just got an exciting press release from the Orange County Extension Office for a “green” event called the “Eco-nomic Living Expo!” You will learn how to save money while going to a greener lifestyle!

This FREE EXPO is a new program developed by the Orange County/University of Florida Extension faculty and staff.

Orange County/University of Florida IFAS Extension educators are helping Orange County Residents build wealth through living green. How consumers do things in their daily routines can make a big difference on their wallet and the environment.

Residents will learn simple strategies and Best Management Practices to:
• Save Energy
• Improve Health
• Save our Communities Natural Resources
• Water & Energy Conservation
• Water Quality
• Use and Reuse of Materials
• Safety Issues

University of Florida agents and vendors will be present to share innovative products and services.
